Travel Guide

Machu Picchu, the ancient Incan city nestled high in the Andes Mountains of Peru, is one of the most iconic and sought-after travel destinations in the world. Known for its stunning archeological significance and breathtaking scenery, it offers visitors a unique glimpse into the past and an unforgettable travel experience.

Getting There

By Train: The most popular way to reach Machu Picchu is via train from Cusco or Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, the town at the base of the mountain. PeruRail and Inca Rail offer several daily services with varying levels of comfort and luxury.

By Foot: For the more adventurous, the Inca Trail is a historic trekking route that leads directly to Machu Picchu. The classic trek takes four days and requires a permit, which must be booked well in advance. Other trekking options include the Salkantay Trek and the Lares Trek, which also offer stunning routes to the ancient city.

By Bus: From Aguas Calientes, a bus ride of about 30 minutes takes you up to the entrance of Machu Picchu. Buses run frequently throughout the day.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Machu Picchu is during the dry season, which runs from April to October. The weather is generally clear, and the trails are in better condition. The peak tourist months are June, July, and August, so consider visiting in April, May, or September for fewer crowds.

Tickets and Entry

Tickets: Tickets to Machu Picchu must be purchased in advance from the official Machu Picchu website or authorized travel agencies. There are several types of tickets, including entry to Machu Picchu alone or combined with climbs to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain.
