There are many interesting towns with impressive archaeological remains on this Cusco south valley tour. First we will come across Tipon, with its extensive terraces and fine irrigation systems that end in altars dedicated to water.

Next we’ll pass by the towns of Huaro and Andahuaylillas. These are home to colonial churches with exquisitely carved pulpits and baroque art. of these, the most important is Andahuaylillas; its church is known as the “Sistine Chapel of the Americas” for its outstanding artwork and murals.

Another noteworthy stop is Huacarpay Lagoon, full of plant and animal species. There are many bird observation towers constructed along the edge to improve the view. After this brief tour of the lake, we will stop by the archaeological site of Pikillaqta, former home of the Wari culture and one of the three most important pre-Inca cities. The site impresses with its sheer size and meticulous layout.

Other Wari sites are dotted along the whole southern valley, many of which were adapted by the Inca for their own use.

Best Hiking Experience ever!

Fantastic trip with lots of amazing scenery and great fun. Some of these scenery are only possible by taking the hiking trail. If you take the train or road, you probably won’t see so much. The hiking trails are moderate as per the itinerary and the guide was good and experienced and made regular stops to help us get to our destinations.
