Choquequirao Trek Briefing

What will we see in the Choquequirao trek?

In this fabulous hike we will see on the way a lot of nature such as orchids and many varieties of birds and if we are lucky we can see the fabulous bear and arriving at the archaeological remains we will see impressive Inca constructions of similar beauty to Machu Picchu.

How far in advance should I book this hike?

Like all the treks we organize, we suggest making a reservation at least 1 month in advance to have everything organized upon arrival, but also if you make a last minute reservation we could organize it at least 2 days in advance. Of course, this reservation would be after consultation and confirmation of availability.

How many groups will I see along the walk?

Choqueruiao trek is not a very well known tour by different visitors so there are not many daily groups, also depends on the season in high season from April to November you can find 2 or 3 groups per day and the low season months from December to March We could be the only group walking, this makes it a more interesting hike for our passengers as Choquequirao is a citadel similar to Machu Picchu in beauty and size and as it does not have many visitors it is much better to take pictures and connect with nature.

Will I find a bathroom along the way?

In each camp where we will have lunch or spend the night we will find a local toilet which you can use and for this you will pay 1 sol or 30 cents, you have to bring your own paper and in case you don’t bring it our staff will be able to provide it.

Do I need walking poles for the hike?

Walking sticks are definitely necessary as they will help you on the way up and especially on the way down and lighten the weight on your knees, if you don’t have them don’t worry we can rent you a pair for 50.00 soles or 18.00 dollars.

What Happens with my stuff?

One day before the departure of the tour, our guide will provide you a duffle bag so that you can pack your equipment including your sleeping bag, this will be carried by the horse and for you to walk, you will only carry a small backpack with your personal things such as camera, water , windbreaker, snacks.
